STRUCTURAL EVALUATIONS / INVESTIGATIONS

MARTIN & CHOCK, INC. has extensive experience in performing structural evaluations/investigations for various purposes. These investigations ranged from narrow focus investigations to comprehensive structural investigations, where field surveys, non-destructive testing of existing materials, and detailed structural analysis of an existing structure have been performed. The following types of structural investigations have been conducted:

    • Structural investigations of corrosion damage of reinforced concrete structures including alternative repair methods

Evaluation
Westin Hotel at Denver International Airport Peer Review.
Interstate Building Fire Damage Repairs; Honolulu, Hawaii Structural Investigation and petrographic testing following the April 1, 2000 16th floor fire which lasted 9 hours. Extensive fire damage repairs to prestressed precast concrete planks, concrete girders, and columns. The most heavily damaged plank elements were replaced with structural steel members.
Hamakua Drive Settlement Damage; Kailua, Hawaii Structural Condition Survey of the Windward Town & Country Plaza Phase II buildings following the city’s Hamakua Drive Sewer Emergency Repair Project. Well over 12 inches of settlement was experienced in the adjacent roadway.

 

 

 

Bank of Hawaii Waikiki Fire Damage Repairs; Waikiki, Oahu, Hawaii

 

A structural survey and investigation was performed at this building following a fire which lasted over 30 hours. Structural repairs of fire damage to concrete floor structural elements, columns, and walls were performed. A limited number of heavily damaged concrete elements were later replaced with structural steel members, achieving significant savings in repair time and expense.
Kaanapali Ocean Resort; Maui, Hawaii  Independent Structural Peer Review of an over-budget project.  Re-analysis indicated that the original design had over 700,000 lbs. of excess reinforcing steel over the 320,000 lbs. required by the Martin & Chock recommended alternative system.
Yokosuka Naval Complex Waterfront Study; Japan Structural Condition Assessment of Fixed Mooring Facilities. Heavy weather mooring evaluation.
Pearl Harbor ICRMP Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan; Hawaii Structural Evaluation and rehabilitation of representative historic buildings for cost estimation and planning.
