EERI SERIES ON SEISMIC DESIGN OF BUILDINGS: "Design Decisions, Methods, and Procedures: First Hawaiian Center Honolulu", Gary Chock, Charles Alexander, and Peter Schubert. This publication describes the 27-story building designed to represent the corporate identity of one of Hawaii's premier banking institutions. The building has a non-rectangular, asymmetrical architectural configuration and a non-uniform width and slenderness ratio. The structural system selection and design had to resolve the challenges presented by these characteristics. The process that is described provides an excellent illustration of a large coordinated design team at work. September 1997, 43 pp. ISBN 0-943198-58-5.
